The Victorian State Government has successfully completed a $132 million upgrade of the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South.

This project, a key investment in local and elite sports infrastructure, has established the facility as one of Australia’s leading centers for basketball and gymnastics.

    • Additional State Budget (2020-21): $22 million

Project Scope and Features

Stage One Deliverables:

  • New Indoor Community Courts:
    • 12 additional courts for local competitions, increasing the total to 18 courts.
  • High-Performance Training Facilities:
    • State-of-the-art training amenities for WNBL and NBL teams.
  • New Gymnastics Facilities:
    • Replacing the facility in Ferntree Gully to accommodate high demand and long waiting lists.
  • New Administration Facilities:
    • Spaces for sports organizations and clubs, including Basketball Victoria, Knox Basketball Inc., Deakin Melbourne Boomers (WNBL), South East Melbourne Phoenix (NBL), and Basketball Australia.
  • Community Spaces:
    • Outdoor town square and new café to enhance community engagement.

Acoustic Solution: Durra Panel

The acoustic performance of the new facilities was significantly enhanced by the incorporation of Durra Panel in the ceiling system. Durra Panel was selected for its superior acoustic properties, ensuring an optimal environment for both athletes and spectators. The panels used include:

  • Durra Panel Finish: Natural & Perforated Corrugated Soundsorb
