Melbourne Convention Centre Expansion

Project

Melbourne Convention Centre

Located within close proximity to major roads, Durra Panel was an easy choice to help mitigate noise intrusion while providing internal acoustic absorption within the event spaces.

Over 16,000 square metres of roofing panels are being erected over the new exhibition space – enough to cover 100 hockey rinks.

The first convention centre to be awarded a 6-star green star environmental rating, Melbourne Convention Centre also had a high acoustic demand to control low frequency noise from a near by helicopter pad. A three part (22,400m²) Durra roof and ceiling system created an acoustic envelope to block out the noise.

The prefinished Durra Panels was installed using the Durra Lifting Fame, providing a practical, efficient and above all safe work methodology for the builders. Large modules of Durra Panel and Durra Steel Sections were assembled on ground in a state of readiness for the completion of structural steel and then crane hoisted onto the structure using the Durra Lifting Frame.
