Sound Stage 9 at Movie World on the Gold Coast was commissioned by Village Roadshow to accommodate upcoming international film productions. The project required rapid delivery without compromising on safety or the acoustic performance essential for a professional studio environment.
The build incorporated more than 6,500m² of Durra Panel and Durra Steel Sections, including 3,716m² across the ceiling and upper wall areas. With a roof height exceeding 25 metres, traditional construction methods posed both safety risks and practical challenges in achieving the necessary noise control and acoustic absorption.
To address these issues, Durra Panel complete with our Soundsorb absorptive facing was pre-assembled on the ground before being lifted into position using the Durra Lifting Frame. This method eliminated the need for extended work at height and provided a controlled, efficient installation process.
In total, 40 lifts of 114m² were carried out to complete the roof and ceiling system. The entire installation, including roof decking, was achieved in just seven days. The finished facility provides a state-of-the-art sound stage capable of meeting the demanding acoustic standards of modern film production.
