Medibank Icehouse Docklands is a standout sports and ice facility, designed to meet the demanding needs of both elite athletes and recreational users. The project, led by Cox Architecture and constructed by ARUP, is a showcase of modern design, functionality, and sustainability. Durra Panel roof, ceiling, and wall systems were specified throughout the facility for their thermal efficiency, acoustic performance, and striking aesthetic options. The panels were supplied with a variety of colour-coded architectural finishes and surfaces of low emissivity, providing durability, visual appeal, and improved energy performance across the building.
Close Commercial managed the installation of the Durra Panel systems, using the innovative Durra Lifting Frame to assemble steel sections and panels at ground level before lifting them into place. This approach not only reduced construction time but also improved site safety, ensuring the project was delivered efficiently. Acoustic consultants Norman Disney & Young played a critical role in optimising sound quality throughout the facility, ensuring spaces from the ice rink to training rooms delivered exceptional acoustic performance. The collaboration of architects, builders, installers, and acoustic consultants demonstrates how integrated teamwork and innovative materials like Durra Panel can transform a sporting facility into a world-class venue, combining functionality, durability, and architectural flair.
