Building a Brighter Future for Youth: Durra Panel’s Partnership with Kids Under Cover

October 25th, 2023

For over 25 years, Durra Panel has partnered with Kids Under Cover to make a difference in the lives of young people facing adversity. Kids Under Cover, an extraordinary non-profit organisation on a mission to eradicate youth homelessness, has found a dedicated ally in Durra Panel. Together, we have collaborated to design and supply stable, secure, and comfortable one- and two-bedroom studios, offering a sanctuary for at-risk youth aged 12 to 25.

Preventing Youth Homelessness

Kids Under Cover’s mission extends beyond shelter; they aim to provide holistic support to vulnerable youth. By offering housing, scholarships, and job training, they empower young individuals to reach their full potential. This support is not confined to those residing in the studios but also extends to their siblings in the primary household, effectively breaking the cycle of poverty and disadvantage.

Durra Panel’s Contribution

Durra Panel contributes by supplying Kids Under Cover with relocatable one and two-bedroom studio kits that go into the backyards of families and caregivers. These studios alleviate overcrowding, reduce tension, and create a secure and stable environment for young people in need. The durability of Durra Panel’s material ensures that these studios can be relocated numerous times once a family no longer requires one.

Sustainability and Well-being

One unique aspect of the studios being built using Durra Panel is the biophilic properties of the panel. Manufactured from natural wheat straw, Durra Panel is 99.9% free from VOCs, making the studios feel good and comfortable to live in. Additionally, these studios significantly reduce the environmental impact of building by sequestering carbon within the panels rather than releasing it into the atmosphere.

A Remarkable Choice

Kids Under Cover’s dedication to ending youth homelessness is commendable, and what sets them apart is their choice of quality, sustainable building materials. Durra Panel’s products, which are known to withstand the test of time, align perfectly with the organisation’s values.

In the words of Derek Layfield, Director of Durra Panel: “It’s cradle to cradle. It comes out of the earth and gets returned to the earth. It’s a beautiful thing.”

Supporting Community Projects

Durra Panel’s collaboration with Kids Under Cover extends to community projects like ‘Village 21’ in Preston & Frankston, providing studios for young people aged 18-21 and professional mentors. These studios encourage communal activities, skill-building, and personal growth. Durra Panel is proud to continually support these projects.

The partnership between Durra Panel and Kids Under Cover represents a shining example of how businesses and organisations can work together to create a brighter future for at-risk youth.
