Biophilic design is an innovative approach to architecture and interior design that incorporates elements of nature into built environments.
The term “biophilia” suggests that humans have an inherent affinity for nature and other living organisms.
Biophilic design aims to create spaces that promote well-being, reduce stress and enhance creativity by integrating natural materials and features into a built environment. It recognizes that our connection to nature is deeply rooted and that exposure to natural elements can have positive psychological and physiological effects.
Derek Layfield, the Managing Director of Durra Panel has dedicated his working life to Durra Panel and being truly sustainable, believing that Biofilic Design is an integral part of a nourishing lifestyle:
“Humans have been designed to connect with nature. So to be surrounded by a straw panel. It feels good. It feels strong. It feels comfortable.”
Using sustainable materials like Durra Panel for wall and ceiling linings create a harmonious and nature-inspired indoor space. Durra Panel sources 100% of straw stubble from Australian farmers located within 100km of our manufacturing facility to produce a panel that is suitable for use in a range of commercial, industrial and residential applications.
Our unique manufacturing process used to make the Durra Panel core activates the natural Lignin within the straw to bind the core together. No need for glues or chemical adhesives which makes Durra Panel 99.9% free from VOCs and an optimal product to incorporate into any biophilic design.
Not only does Durra Panel add a unique nature-inspired style, carbon emissions are at the forefront of manufacturing, with every square metre of Durra Panel extracting 31kg of carbon dioxide from the earth’s atmosphere and 8.5 kg of that is stored as carbon within the panel itself.
The purpose of biophilic design is to create spaces that deliver benefits for both human health and the environment with Durra Panel doing just that, being 100% recyclable or 100% biodegradable at the end of its useful life, Durra Panel truly represents connectivity to the natural environment.
