A WALL & CEILING PANEL MADE FROM COMPRESSED STRAW.
Durra Panel is a high-performance building panel manufactured from compressed wheat and rice straw, an agricultural by-product that would otherwise be burned after harvest. By giving this waste material a second life, Durra Panel becomes one of the most environmentally responsible building materials available in Australia.
Each panel is formed using heat and pressure alone. A natural polymer in the straw fibre acts as its own binding agent, no chemical resins, no synthetic glues, no toxic binders. The result is a solid, durable panel core lined with recycled Kraft paper, ready for wall and ceiling applications across commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

WHY DURRA PANEL?
The Sustainable Wall & Ceiling Panel That Doesn’t Ask You to Compromise
Plenty of products claim sustainability. Durra Panel can prove it with third-party verified data, a carbon negative footprint, and a 30-year track record in Australian buildings.
EPD verified, Declare Label certified, and formatted for Green Star, NABERS, and Living Building Challenge submissions. You don't need to chase the data — it's waiting for you.
–19 kg/m² GWP, independently verified. When a client or assessor asks for proof, you have a number and a document, not a claim.
Red List compliant. 99% VOC free. The sustainability credentials hold through manufacture, occupation, and demolition — not just on the spec sheet.
Fully recyclable and compostable — the panel returns to the earth the same way it came from it. Agricultural waste in, agricultural waste out. No landfill liability at demolition, proven at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

01
Agricultural Straw Sourced
Wheat and rice straw is purchased from Australian farmers — waste that would otherwise be burned after harvest, releasing stored carbon back into the atmosphere.
02
Heat & Pressure Formation
The straw is compressed using heat and pressure alone. No water, no gas, no chemical binders. The natural straw lignin acts as its own binding agent.
03
Kraft Paper Lining
Each panel is wrapped with recycled Kraft liner paper using water-based PVA glue. The only added material in the entire process.

Panels arrive on site cut to size and pre-finished. No stopping. No sanding. No paint preparation. Following trades can start sooner.

Fully Demountable — Zero Impact on Heritage Fabric
A high-performance acoustic rehearsal space for Orchestra Victoria, built inside a heritage-listed building dating back to 1880 without touching a single original fixture. The heritage listing required the space to be fully returnable to its original condition, making Durra Panel’s modular system the only viable solution. The entire double-layer acoustic lining demounts cleanly and reassembles elsewhere, leaving no demolition waste and no permanent impact.
Durra Panel’s modular acoustic ceiling system was installed throughout a double-court gymnasium at Sacred Heart College’s Sports and Wellness precinct , delivering noise control, fire compliance and long-term durability without wet trades. The project sequestered 66 tonnes of carbon and was recognised in the Carbon Capture Awards 2025 Commercial Category, a strong environmental outcome from a single specification decision made at the design stage.
Designed with Joost Bakker and Frank Burridge the Woodleigh School Futures Building fosters creativity and well-being while adhering to the Living Building Institute’s Red List. Durra Panel replaced traditional plaster across walls and ceilings throughout the building. All off-cuts were mulched back into the school’s gardens, completing a full cradle-to-cradle life cycle and showing what it looks like when natural materials are genuinely integrated into the built environment.
