It’s a change that opens the product up to a wider range of people and projects: tradies, contractors, owner-builders, and anyone tackling a renovation, shed build, or home studio.
The Natural Finish panel is the product available through Mitre 10, a clean, unpainted compressed straw lining that can be painted, wallpapered, customised with a wide range of decorative treatments. It comes in 50 mm thickness, 1187 mm wide, and in three standard lengths: 2.4 m, 2.7 m, and 3.0 m.
Durra Panel is a compressed straw wall and ceiling lining, manufactured in Bendigo, Victoria from reclaimed wheat straw, an agricultural by-product that would otherwise be burned after harvest, releasing its stored carbon back into the atmosphere. Instead, that carbon gets locked into the panel for the life of the building, with each square metre sequestering 31 kg of carbon from the atmosphere. At the end of its useful life, the panel is 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable.
It’s fully certified, Australian made, and has been used on major projects across the country for decades. Fire resistant, acoustically tested, thermally insulating, durable. It cuts with standard woodworking tools and installs using a modular fixing system, no specialist trades required.
