Acoustic Performance and Design with Durra Panel

The Keys Bowling Alley demonstrates how thoughtful material selection can enhance performance and design. Durra Panel’s acoustic properties, natural finish, and sustainability helped create a warm, inviting atmosphere while supporting efficient installation and careful material management.
"The end result of our venue owes a significant amount to our decision to use Durra Panel. It plays a major role in the acoustics of our cavernous space, contributes to better air quality and delivers a visual warmth that completes the atmosphere. It sounds great, it smells great, and it looks great!"
- Jonathan Rowatt, Director of Yarra Point Group

The Keys Bowling Alley presented a unique challenge: creating a visually warm, acoustically balanced, and sustainable venue. The project team needed to clad large areas quickly while choosing materials that were environmentally sustainable and added to the character and comfort of the space.

Acoustics were a key consideration for the venue. Bowling alleys generate constant low-frequency rumble, which can easily dominate a space if not managed. Inside, the team aimed for a warm, welcoming atmosphere; outside, careful noise control was needed to respect nearby residents. Durra Panel was chosen for its proven acoustic performance, helping bring these goals to life.

The panels’ natural finish complemented the venue’s design, and their straightforward assembly made installation fast and efficient, with minimal disruption to other trades. Estimating quantities was simple, reducing waste, and any leftover material was repurposed in the venue’s garden.

The result is a venue that delivers on acoustics, aesthetics, and comfort. Durra Panel helped deliver a space that is acoustically balanced, visually warm and environmentally mindful, showing how the right material can make a big difference to both performance and experience.
