The residential project in Numbugga, NSW, designed by Cooee Architecture for South East Ecologic Homes, required a sustainable, high-performance building solution. The region is known for significant temperature fluctuations between clear, sunny days and cold nights. To combat this, the build utilised a holistic “breathable” envelope: Hempcrete for the external walls, high-efficiency uPVC windows, and Durra Panel natural finish ceilings. This trifecta was specified to stabilize the indoor climate, providing a thermally consistent, acoustically dampened, and environmentally responsible home.
The project required a ceiling that would support a sustainable home without sacrificing the “look and feel” of the finished interior. A primary challenge in the Numbugga area is managing the diurnal temperature swing; the brief called for a solution that would prevent a drastic drop in temperature overnight.
