As part of a major upgrade to Fujitsu’s Homebush Data Centre in Sydney, Durra Panel supplied modular, fire-resistant ceiling systems for the facility’s Chiller and Generator Buildings. These buildings form a critical part of the data centre’s infrastructure, housing essential cooling systems and backup power generation. The project required materials that could meet strict performance standards while allowing ongoing access for maintenance and future equipment replacement.
Data centre facilities are long-life assets that must continue operating while accommodating frequent technological upgrades. For the Homebush upgrade, Fujitsu required ceiling systems capable of supporting critical infrastructure environments, including generator and chiller buildings. The ceilings needed to deliver high levels of fire resistance, thermal performance, and structural durability, while also enabling safe and efficient access to large plant and equipment. Traditional fixed ceiling systems would have limited access and increased downtime during maintenance or generator replacement, creating operational risk.
Durra Panel was specified as the ceiling system across both the Chiller Building and the Generator Building, with more than 1,220 square metres installed. Combined with Durra Steel Sections, the system provided a modular, removable ceiling solution that allows entire sections to be lifted out in a single piece. This approach enables generators and major equipment to be serviced or replaced without dismantling permanent ceiling assemblies or disrupting surrounding operations. In addition to its modular flexibility, the system delivers strong fire resistance, thermal efficiency, and long-term durability, making it well suited to the demanding conditions of a data centre environment.
The completed ceiling system supports the reliable operation of Fujitsu’s Homebush Data Centre while significantly improving access for maintenance and future upgrades. The modular design reduces downtime, enhances safety during servicing, and ensures the facility can adapt over its operational life. Beyond performance, the use of Durra Panel contributed to the project’s sustainability objectives. Manufactured with an engineered biomass core, the panels are carbon-negative, reducing embodied carbon while still meeting the rigorous technical requirements of critical data centre infrastructure.
