Australia’s “Chasing the Sun” exhibition was designed as a mesmerising journey through three distinct environments: Land Country, Sky Country, and Sea Country. Each space was carefully planned with its own layout, structure, and visual style to reflect the unique stories and landscapes of Australia.
Durra Panel systems were specified by Stagekings across several key architectural elements of the pavilion including the entry portal, VIP access point and three immersive transition Portals between the themed environments. The result was a seamless visitor experience where thoughtful design and attention to detail guided guests through a cohesive and engaging narrative.
Durra Panel’s in-house design team played an integral role throughout the project, working side by side with Stagekings to develop detailed construction drawings and ensure seamless integration of our panel systems into the pavilion’s creative vision. The process was based on a design-led approach, with every element prototyped, fabricated and tested in Stagekings Sydney facility to ensure precision and performance. Once complete, the components were carefully packed into 14 containers and shipped to Osaka, where two of our senior team members travelled to Japan to support the assembly phase.
As with any complex International build, the project required careful navigation of logistical constraints and on-the-ground variables. Through detailed prototyping and the on-site presence of key team members, Durra Panel ensured a smooth delivery and consistent design execution. The Australian Pavilion exemplifies how sustainable, precision-engineered materials can support ambitious, high-profile architecture on a global platform.
